Swimming: In the lake of Banyoles (5 km), on the beaches of the Mediterranean (40 km), or in small rivers of the lower Pyrenees. Hiking: Along the rocky coast and the beaches of the Costa Brava, around the lake of Banyoles, through valleys of the Pyrenees or in the volcanic area of the Garrotxa.

Sightseeing:

Banyoles (5 km): Monastery St. Estève, founded in 812. Gothic church Sta. María, 13th century. Sta. María de Porqueres, romanesque 1128. Market-place with buildings of the 15th and 16th century. Quaint historic centre.
Girona (13 km): Cathedral. Very important medieval centre with well conserved Jewish quarter. Arabian Baths. Many impressing Romanesque and Gothic buildings. Art museum.
Besalú (14 km): Excellently mantained medieval centre and exceptional Romanesque bridge of the 11th century. Former Jewish quarter with Jewish bathing house.
Sant Pere de Rodes: A former monastery (10th century) with a unique architecture and a fascinating view.
Empúries: Ruins of the important Greek and later Roman Harbour, with museum.
Ullastret: Uncovered Iberian settlement.
Figueres: Dalí-museum, museum of naïve art, castle of San Ferran.
Cadaqués: Formerly a fisher-village, Dalí’s residence, galleries.
La Bisbal: Traditional centre of ceramics and pottery. Most important school for ceramics in Spain. A lot of workshops and ceramic stores.
Barcelona (120 km): A variety of sights and attractions.

And: Monastery of Vilabertran. The villages Sta. Pau, Beuda, Pals. The castle of Toroella de Montgrí ... .

Intensive Spanish language courses: For those who want to get to know the country and its people through the language.

Natural parks: Nearby you can visit three natural parks: the volcanic zone of the Garrotxa, the Marshland of the Empordá and the Medes Islands.

Sports: The lake of Banyoles (5 km from Can Ribes) was one of the oficial sites of the 1992 summer olympics (for rowing). And in 2004 even the World Rowing Championships and in 2010 the World Kayaking Championships took place!

Banyoles and Girona (13 km) offer excellent facilities for a wide variety of sporting activities. Some of them are:

rowing, canoeing, mountain biking, triathlon, cycle racing, diving, football, hand-, basket- and volleyball, baseball, swimming, tennis, squash, horseback riding, dancing, archery, fun- und adventure-sports … .

Can Ribes is situated on a hillside near the lake of Banyoles. It offers a marvellous view in direction of the coast and up to the Pyrenees in the north-west.

You find us between the provincial capital Gerona/Girona (13 km) and the town of Banyoles, wellknown for its natural lake (5 km).

How to get there by car:

Highway A7: Exit 6 (Girona-North) take the highway C 66 towards Banyoles. Before reaching Banyoles, take the exit "Palol de Revardit" (GIV 5147). 4 km after the exit you¨ll find the sign "Sta. Maria de Camós", going uphill, there you¨ll find the sign of Can Ribes. Take this road to our house (200 m).

Can Ribes is located 50 km from the French-Spanish border at La Jonquera, about 100 km from Barcelona and 40 km from the Mediterranean.
